Wine Advocate-Parker :
Pungent evocations of hickory smoke in the nose of the barrel-raised Deiss 2011 Schoffweg mingle with hints of lanolin, pear distillate and applejack. Bitter nips of huckleberry and liquid iris-like perfume inflect a cider-like, oily, silken-textured palate. Resinous notes from wood neither bring with them any textural roughness nor dry out the flow of apple and pear fruit to a long and fascinating finish. Deiss opines that the fine-grained, high active lime soil here - along with the relative coolness of the site - conduces to the sort of retention of levity and juiciness that I am describing, but at the same time makes for a wine that needs more time than do most of his others to show its potential. I would not hesitate to plan on following this rendition through at least 2025. I've had my differences with the woody approach adopted for this bottling but not in the present instance.
